This week has seen a new royal baby born, as well as history being made by four English clubs in European Football’s two major competitions.
Royal Baby Archie
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s first child was born this week. On Wednesday, the couple proudly showed off their son at Windsor Castle, when he was just two-days-old. Later that day
they announced that they had chosen a name for their first born; Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Many realised that the baby has no official title, unlike his cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. It has been reported that the family are doing well and adapting to new
family life.
Plans for 3000 New Retirement Homes
Legal and General (L&G) have announced their plan to build 3,000 retirement homes in key city centre locations over the course of the next five years. It has been reported that this radical move may help counter the decline of the high street in towns and cities.
L&G has set up a development firm, called Guide Living. Their plan is to build thousands of apartments for older people across the UK, with developments starting in Bath and Surrey. Their typical retirement schemes will house around 200 apartments, which will mainly be for sale. However, 10-20% will be available to rent. Phil Bayliss, the chairman of Guild Living has said they ‘want to secure sites in cities including Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton, London, Cambridge and Oxford.
Keep an eye out, as a development may be popping up in a city near you.
English Domination in European Football
This week was a big week for English football! Four English clubs have created European history by taking all four final spots in the continent’s two major competitions! Firstly, came the dramatic wins for Liverpool, over Barcelona, and Tottenham, beating Ajax, in the Champions League.
On Thursday Chelsea beat Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties and Arsenal won in Valencia to secure their places in the Europa League final. There have only ever been two all English finals before, with the most recent occurrence dating back to Manchester United beating Chelsea in the 2018 Champions League Final!
