What our Telecare systems do:
At Telecare Choice we provide telecare systems that allow the elderly, frail and disabled to continue living in their home. Often when someone is frail, have just come out of hospital, or live alone when elderly they find themselves either;
- Leaving their homes to live in a residential care home
- Feeling a burden to their family and friends for needing help
Our telecare systems offer a third option, thanks to our telecare technology that is simple to use, quick to install and almost immediately responsive for users. The telecare system consists of; the base unit that uses the existing telephone line and has a microphone and speaker and a pendent alarm to be worn around the wrist or neck.
Once set up, the user simply wears the pendant alarm (which can be used in the garden and shower) at all possible times. Then in the event of a fall or any other emergency they just press the red button on their pendant. Our care team will respond over the base unit speaker and work out what the best course of action is. They may contact a friend, neighbour, family member, carer, or the emergency services to come out to help the user.
The benefits of staying at home:
- It's familiar and comforting - As people get older routine and familiarity can become incredibly important to feeling at ease. Having our own belongings and home comforts around us, including family photos and memories of events in our home, can help with loneliness. For many elderly people, their homes have been where they spent most of their lives and raised families.
- Less confusion - It's common in older age to become more forgetful; from simply forgetting where we put something to forgetting whole conversations. Moving from their own home to a new residential home with different people can be too much change for some.
- Independence and purpose - Many homeowners feel a sense of pride when they are able to invite people over and cook for people. Elderly people often enjoy pottering around their home and gardens to keep active, whilst feeling the achievement of doing things for themselves.
- Less expense - It's no secret that residential care homes can be a large expense for the elderly and their families. Continuing to live at home with the help of a telecare system is far more cost effective if this is the best route for them.
